Taylor Claims Summer Shootout Championship as Breland Wins Daytona Finale

The MLSR Ideal Family LLC Summer Shootout reached its championship finale at Daytona International Speedway with the NASCAR Cup Series Next Gen cars, closing out a four-race superspeedway run that had already produced chaos, late-race swings, and shifting title momentum. By the end of 82 laps, the race and the championship belonged to two different drivers.

Ronald Breland won the Daytona finale, leading only the final lap and beating Matthew Taylor10 to the line by 0.061 seconds. It was the kind of finish Daytona is built to produce: a tight draft, a late push, and a race decided by timing more than total laps led. Brad A. Harris finished third, with Kyler Adams and Matthew Neal6 completing the top five.

Taylor’s second-place finish was enough to secure the Summer Shootout championship. Entering the finale as one of the main title contenders, Taylor did what he needed to do in the closing laps, staying in the fight for the race win while also protecting the larger prize. He came up one position short of winning the finale, but left Daytona with the championship.

The race-defining moment came on pit road, where Ethan A. Thompson’s night changed dramatically. Thompson had been in position throughout the race to win both the Daytona finale and the Summer Shootout championship. He led a race-high 25 laps and looked like one of the strongest cars in the field before contact involving the No. 72 entering pit lane pushed him too fast onto pit road and left him with damage. Thompson never fully recovered and finished 16th.

That incident reshaped the championship battle. With Thompson falling out of contention, Taylor’s path became clearer, but he still had to survive the closing run. Daytona gave him no easy route, especially with Breland charging into position late and the front group tightening up for the finish.

Breland made the most of his opportunity. After spending much of the race outside the statistical spotlight, he put himself in the right place at the right time when the final run developed. Leading only one lap at Daytona can still be enough if it is the last one, and Breland executed the finish to take the race victory.

Behind the top five, several drivers put together strong recovery runs. Russell Marciniak climbed from 23rd to sixth, Shane Hatfield charged from 32nd to seventh, and Dakoda Cydrus advanced from 25th to eighth. Those runs showed how quickly Daytona can reward patience and positioning, even for drivers starting deep in the field.

The finale also brought difficult endings for several contenders. Adam Ramsey led 12 laps but finished 27th, while Thompson’s title hopes faded after the pit road mishap. Joseph Essenberg recorded the fastest lap of the race with a 45.475 on Lap 72, adding another notable mark to a finale filled with shifting momentum.

For Major League Sim Racing, the Summer Shootout delivered exactly what a short superspeedway series is supposed to provide: different winners, unpredictable finishes, and a championship that stayed alive until the final race. Breland closed the series with the Daytona win, but Taylor left as the champion after a composed runner-up effort when the pressure was highest.
