The MLSR C-Open Series continued its inaugural season Tuesday night with Race 2 at Kentucky Speedway, where an early strategy shakeup and one major accident gave way to one of the cleanest long-run races of the young season.
The night's first turning point came on Lap 13 when the opening caution sent the field to pit road. Teams immediately split their strategies. Some elected to take four tires, others chose fuel only, several took both fuel and tires, and a handful stayed on the racetrack altogether. The varying approaches completely reshuffled the running order and created uncertainty about who had made the right call.
Before anyone had a chance to find out, the race's biggest accident unfolded.
On the ensuing restart, contact between Matthew Neal's No. 69 and Max Ford's No. 5 triggered a multi-truck crash that collected several competitors and dramatically altered the complexion of the evening. Drivers who had survived the strategy shuffle suddenly found themselves fighting damaged trucks—or watching their chances disappear altogether.
From that point forward, the race transformed.

Capitalizing on the early pit sequence, Barnes worked his way to the front and never relinquished control. His truck remained consistently fast throughout the extended green-flag run, allowing him to stretch his advantage while others managed tires and searched for a way to close the gap. By the time the checkered flag waved, Barnes had led a race-high 42 laps in a commanding performance.
The victory didn't come without competition.
Shawn Hook started from the pole and controlled the opening stages, leading 36 laps before strategy shuffled him back in the running order. Zack Domer also spent time at the front, leading 14 laps, while Ethan A. Thompson established himself as another contender by pacing the field for 17 circuits during the race's middle stages.
When the long green-flag run settled in, however, Barnes proved untouchable.
Behind Barnes, Timothy Harper finished second after another consistent performance to continue his strong start to the inaugural season. Ethan A. Thompson completed the podium after leading 17 laps of his own, while James Beard finished fourth and Dana Shepard rounded out the top five.
Kentucky ultimately became a race of two distinct chapters. The opening laps featured aggressive strategy calls and the night's largest accident. The remainder of the event showcased disciplined green-flag racing, with drivers settling into a rhythm and allowing execution—not cautions—to determine the final outcome.
For Christian Barnes, the winning formula was straightforward. Make the right call early, execute over a long run, and never give the field another opportunity.
