he MLSR C-Open Series continued its inaugural season Tuesday night at The Milwaukee Mile, where a dominant performance by Max Ford was ultimately undone by late-race circumstances, opening the door for Christian Barnes to earn his second victory of the young season.
The evening's first major incident came shortly after a Lap 26 restart.
As the field accelerated, Timothy Harper washed up the racetrack and made contact with the left-front quarter panel of the No. 22, sending the truck spinning and triggering a multi-truck pileup. The accident collected several frontrunners and immediately reshaped the race, forcing many of the early contenders into recovery mode before the event had fully settled into a rhythm.
Once the race returned to green, Max Ford took command.
Ford methodically established himself as the driver to beat, leading a race-high 95 laps while controlling the pace throughout the longest green-flag stretches of the evening. As the laps wound down, it appeared the race was firmly in his hands.
Then, with 26 laps remaining, everything changed.
A self-spin brought out the caution flag at the worst possible time for Ford. The yellow gave Christian Barnes the opportunity to pit for fresh tires, while Ford had already exhausted his available tire sets and remained on older tires.
The strategic advantage Ford had built over the course of the race disappeared in an instant.
When racing resumed, Barnes immediately put the fresh tires to work. Closing the gap over the final laps, he made the winning move late and drove away to capture his second victory in the opening three races of the inaugural C-Open Series season.
Ford crossed the line second after one of the most dominant performances of the year, leading 95 of the race's 150 laps but falling just short after the late caution. Connor E. Cunningham finished third, while Zack Domer and Anthony Lee Abernathy rounded out the top five.
For Barnes, the victory continued an impressive start to the season after his win at Kentucky. For Ford, Milwaukee became a reminder that even the strongest performance can be overturned by a perfectly timed caution.
